The Ultimate Guide to Brie and Caramelized Onion Dip: A Crowd-Pleasing Appetizer

Brie and Caramelized Onion Dip

This dip holds a special place in my heart—it was the first dish I brought to a family potluck, and not a single bite was left! The creamy Brie melts into the sweet, golden onions for a flavor that feels fancy but familiar. Whether it’s for game night or a quiet weekend, it’s always a hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • Salt to taste

  • 8 oz Brie cheese, rind removed and cubed

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ¼ cup sour cream

  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (optional)

  • Crackers, baguette slices, or veggies for serving

Instructions

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add onions, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 25–30 mins, stirring often, until deep golden and caramelized.

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • In a bowl, mix Brie, cream cheese, sour cream, and thyme. Stir in caramelized onions.

  • Transfer to a small baking dish and bake for 15–20 mins until bubbly and golden on top.

  • Serve warm with your favorite dippers.

Notes

  • For a shortcut, caramelize onions in advance and store in the fridge.

  • Add a drizzle of honey before baking for extra depth.

  • Great with apple slices for a sweet-savory bite!
