Roasted Cabbage Steaks

These Roasted Cabbage Steaks are a simple, healthy, and flavorful dish that’s perfect as a snack or side. With just six ingredients and minimal prep time, this recipe is a great way to enjoy cabbage in a new and delicious way. The crispy edges and tender center make it a crowd-pleaser, and it pairs well with a variety of dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 small cabbage heads
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • ½ tsp. salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tbsp. garlic powder
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cabbage:
    • Cut the stems off the cabbage heads. Slice each cabbage in half, then slice each half again to create four thick “steaks” (about ¾ to 1 inch thick).
  2. Season the Cabbage:
    • Place the cabbage steaks on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each for even cooking.
    • Brush both sides of the cabbage steaks with olive oil.
    • Sprinkle salt, garlic powder, and paprika evenly over both sides. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired.
  3. Roast:
    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Bake the cabbage steaks for about 25 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and browned, and the center is tender.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve hot out of the oven as a snack, side, or main dish.

Notes

  • Thickness Matters: Keep the cabbage slices thick (¾ to 1 inch) to prevent them from falling apart during roasting.
  • Customize Seasonings: Experiment with other spices like cumin, chili powder, or Italian seasoning for different flavor profiles.
  • Add Toppings: Drizzle with balsamic glaze, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, or top with toasted nuts for extra flavor and texture.
