This is the kind of dish that feels like a hug from the inside out. I made this for my mom one afternoon when she wasn’t feeling her best—it took just minutes to prepare, but the comfort it brought lasted all day. Whether you’re serving it over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits, this simple classic brings joy to every table.
2 lbs (900g) boneless chicken breasts or thighs
1 packet chicken gravy mix (or 1 cup jarred gravy)
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Place chicken in a slow cooker or large pot.
In a bowl, mix gravy packet, cream of chicken soup, broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Pour over the chicken. Cover and:
Slow cooker: Cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours
Stovetop: Simmer gently for 45–60 minutes until chicken is tender
Shred chicken with two forks and stir into the gravy. Serve warm.
Serving Ideas: Over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or warm biscuits.
Add sautéed mushrooms or peas for extra flavor and color.
Leftovers make amazing open-faced sandwiches!
For extra creaminess, stir in a splash of milk or sour cream before serving.
