Banana Donut Holes: 2-Ingredient Banana Bread Donuts Recipe

Banana Donut Holes

These 2-Ingredient Banana Bread Donuts are a quick, easy, and delicious treat that requires no yeast, eggs, butter, or milk. With just ripe bananas and self-rising flour, you can whip up these donuts in under 15 minutes. They taste like banana bread in donut form and are perfect for breakfast or dessert. Top them with your favorite toppings for an extra touch of sweetness!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup (88 g) pureed ripe bananas (about 1 large banana)
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp (71.5 g) self-rising flour (see notes for adjustments)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Add 1 inch of oil to a medium saucepan or frying pot. Heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the pureed bananas and self-rising flour. Mix with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix—the dough should be slightly sticky.
  3. Shape the Donuts: Use a 2-tsp cookie scoop to portion the dough into small balls. Gently release the dough balls directly into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  4. Fry the Donuts: Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use tongs to flip the donuts halfway through.
  5. Drain and Cool: Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Let them cool slightly.
  6. Add Toppings: Once cool enough to handle, roll the donuts in granulated sugar or your preferred topping. Serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Banana Ripeness: Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  2. Flour Type: The type of self-rising flour you use matters. Low-protein flour (like White Lily) absorbs less liquid, so adjust the amount of flour if using a higher-protein brand.
  3. Oil Temperature: Maintain the oil at around 350°F (175°C) for even frying. Use a kitchen thermometer if possible.
  4. Donut Size: A 2-tsp cookie scoop ensures evenly sized donut holes. If you don’t have one, use a measuring spoon and shape the dough gently.
  5. Toppings: Customize your donuts with granulated sugar, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, or a glaze.
