Ultimate Guide to Beef Onion Stir Fry: A Quick & Flavorful Recipe

Beef Onion Stir Fry

My dad used to whip up this beef and onion stir fry in under 30 minutes after a long workday—it was his way of feeding us fast, but with love. The tender beef, sweet onions, and savory sauce hit the spot every time. It’s simple, satisfying, and made for sharing at the dinner table.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced

  • 2 large onions, sliced

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • Optional: chopped scallions or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a bowl, toss beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and water. Let marinate for 10 minutes.

  • Heat oil in a pan or wok over high heat. Stir-fry garlic for a few seconds.

  • Add beef and sear until browned. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same pan, stir-fry onions until soft and golden.

  • Return beef to the pan, toss with onions, and cook for another minute or two.

  • Serve hot over rice or noodles, garnished if you like.

Notes

  • Slice the beef thin against the grain for tenderness.

  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.

  • A splash of rice vinegar or a pinch of sugar balances the flavors beautifully.
